The Guardian has a strong reputation for its environmental coverage, in particular the issue of climate change. As an organisation however, it also recognises that it contributes to global warming through its day to day operations. Last year, Guardian Newspapers Ltd estimated that company air travel accounted for around 700 tonnes of CO2. Working in partnership with ClimateCare, the Guardian is now offsetting all company flights booked through its central travel agent. The Guardian is also encouraging its readers to be more conscious about the impact that their actions have on the environment. Alongside campaigns such as Leo Hickman's ethical living series, which encourages people to cut down wherever possible on polluting forms of transport, they are now offering readers the option to offset their air travel emissions. A web page has been created to enable readers to easily calculate and offset emissions for flights anywhere in the world. In addition to this, all Guardian and Observer marketing flight offers now give readers the option to offset the flights they purchase.
