Does ClimateCare provide CERs or VERs?

Yes, we supply both certified emission reductions under the Kyoto Protocol (CERs) and verified emission reductions (VERs), from our own managed projects and through our extensive network in the market. Emission reductions sold online can be either VERs or CERs, depending on your portfolio choice. We can supply CERs if you wish to purchase a high volume of emission reductions.

Who are your clients?

We provide emission reductions for all sizes of business. We have experience in running a wide range of carbon management programmes including Land Rover’s industry-leading offset scheme. Some of the brands we work with include Aviva, Barclays, Bombardier, the Co-operative Group, E.ON, Yahoo and the three major UK political parties. Read our case studies or take a look at our client list to find out more.

Why should my company take responsibility?

To be successful in business it is vital to be aware of the emergence of big issues and what they mean for the way you work. Today the world is waking up to climate change and the importance of cutting CO2 emissions. There is increasing pressure to show that your company is switched on to the issue, from a wide variety of stakeholders; from investors and customers to your own employees.

Companies are being challenged to take responsibility for their impact on the climate today and understand how business will work in the low carbon world of tomorrow. We can help you manage carbon in your company.

Do you meet industry standards?

Our projects follow the same robust process of design, monitoring and independent verification as set down by the UN's Clean Development Mechanism. They also meet a recognised international standard for emission reductions.

We are developing projects to comply with the CDM, Gold Standard CDM, Gold Standard VER, Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and VER+.
Our work has played an important role in the development of the voluntary carbon market and our project principles have widely influenced the debate about what counts as a valid carbon offset.

Do you provide Gold Standard projects?

Yes we do. Our emission reduction projects are all designed to one of the available internationally recognised industry standards: these include the CDM, Gold Standard (GS VER), Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and VER+.

We use the Gold Standard VER wherever possible. Crucially, Gold Standard VER projects take time to develop. Currently very few projects have yet reached Gold Standard registration stage. The Gold Standard website provides useful further information on its standards.

We currently have two projects undergoing validation with the Gold Standard. We also have a large pipeline of projects we are designing to the Gold Standard CDM and voluntary standard, which we hope to have registered in due course.

Do your projects comply with the UK Government’s code of best practice for offset providers?

In February 2008, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) announced its proposed ‘Voluntary Code of Best Practice’ for carbon offset providers. ClimateCare broadly welcomes this initiative - we had been working hard to encourage the government to become involved with the voluntary market since 1999.

ClimateCare, alongside the eight leading international carbon offset companies, welcomes the UK Government’s work towards an Offsetting Code and its recognition of the important role played by Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs). When Defra in the UK published its draft version of the Code (Jan 2007) ‘Kyoto-compliant’ carbon credits only were included. However, following a twelve month consultation that saw support for VERs from experts as varied as NGOs and academics through to Parliament’s own Environmental Audit Committee, Hilary Benn stated recently that “we recognise that credits from the unregulated market may be innovative and of a very high standard”.

Do you have the ability to scale up for significant volumes?

Yes. We have the flexibility to evolve with the market without compromising our standards and values. We have a pipeline of millions of tonnes under contract, assessment and negotiation. We have a long-term strategy for a programmatic approach to emission reductions, developing international strategic partnerships at a government level with the aim of providing systematic, country-wide programmes for low emission, sustainable development.

If you require a high volume of emission reductions we will use our expertise and global reach to source projects to suit your requirements and scale. Please see our Corporate Services page for more information.

Can you perform a full carbon analysis for us?

We have a range of online calculators that calculate your emissions from the key sources of your business operations. The areas covered (such as business flights and operational emissions) are likely to cover the largest part of your business footprint. Please see our online offset tool to learn more. If you are likely to have a very large carbon footprint and would like a more comprehensive footprinting service we can make a recommendation for you; please contact our Corporate Services team on +44 (0)1865 207000 for more information.

Can I choose the projects my company invests in?

Making reductions through a portfolio, rather than a single project, enables us to effectively manage risk of delivery. We reduce emissions for most companies using our General Portfolio of projects. The portfolio also provides a range of engaging stories you can use for your customers. However we are very happy to build bespoke project portfolios if you wish to purchase a high volume of emission reductions. Please contact our Corporate Services team for more information on +44 (0)1865 207000.

Do you charge VAT?

Yes we do. Until early 2008, ClimateCare did not charge VAT, on the basis of a direct instruction from the UK's HM Revenue & Customs, ClimateCare’s carbon offsets sold to you had fallen outside the scope of VAT. We do advise our partners to take advice on how VAT should be applied when they attach ClimateCare carbon offsets to their goods and services.

When I offset my company’s emissions with ClimateCare, what else do I get?

Alongside credible emission reductions, we provide businesses with a range of materials to help them communicate their offset. If you would like to become a reseller and include carbon offsets with your goods and services, you can find out more on our reseller pages. If you would like to offset emissions from your company, take a look at our business calculator.

If you are a company interested in purchasing a high volume of emission reductions, we offer a dedicated account manager service and a range of project, marketing and carbon management support services. For more information, please see our Corporate Services.

I want to link to your website from ours, how can I do this?

We are happy to provide you with an appropriate link and brief suggested wording. You’ll find the information you need in our resellers section. Unfortunately we are not able to provide a reciprocal link.
