how we reduce emissions

When you pay ClimateCare for emission reductions, your money is invested in projects around the world that reduce greenhouse gases. All our projects undergo robust design, monitoring, validation and verification processes so that you can be confident that the emission reductions are made.

Our Project Principles

  • A Portfolio Approach
When you purchase an offset through ClimateCare your money helps to fund a portfolio of mixed technology and location projects.  This helps to manage risk and increase the diversity of projects with which our clients can engage their stakeholders.
  • Timing of Reductions
There are two primary ways in which to finance carbon reduction projects: once they have happened and are verified, and through upfront finance before the reductions have occured.
  • Location and Double Counting
We do not fund projects in countries that have binding commitments under the UN Kyoto Protocol, unless they can be retired from the country's national account.
  • Project Types
We fund a good variety of low carbon technologies that reduce emissions through energy efficiency or renewable generation.  The document below contains further information on some examples of project technology.
  • Additionality
A key facet of all ClimateCare-funded projects is that they would not have gone ahead without the carbon finance provided through our carbon offsets.  We follow the additionality assessments of each of the internationally recognised standards.
  • International Standards
ClimateCare source carbon offset credits from projects validated, verified and registered to one of the internationally recognised industry standards.  For a list of these standards please download the document below.
  • Environmental and Social Impacts
We assess the impacts of all our projects on a full range of stakeholders, ensuring we maintain high environmental and social standards in our project approach.
  • Leakage
Leakage assessment is a standard component of our project design.  This is always approached project by project and addressed when required.
  • Permanence
This only tends to be an issue for carbon sequestration projects and those projects that reduce emissions directly tend to be viewed as permanent.
  • Suppressed Demand
It is viewed as more beneficial and often more cost effective to intercept any community's path of development and divert it to a sustainable, low-carbon route.  ClimateCare supports projects in communities that are still at a low level of development.
