The calculation for the volume of CO2 produced on your flight is based on a report commissioned from Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute.
It surveyed the science regarding aviation's impact on the climate, as well as the assumptions of type of aircraft, number of seats etc.

For long-haul flights you can now increase your calculation accuracy by entering the stop-over city in the ‘via’ entry field. The calculator will then return the total emissions from the combined two flights.
